DIFFERENCE Among Destroyer , Frigate and Corvette

Destroyers, corvettes, and frigates are three types of naval vessels that have different roles in the military. While they all have similarities in their design, each type of vessel is specifically tailored for different purposes.

Destroyer

A destroyer is a large, heavily armed naval vessel but fast at the same time. It is designed mainly for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) as well as anti-aircraft warfare (AAW). They are also capable of conducting offensive operations against enemy targets on the surface.

Destroyers are known for their speed which can reach to 30-35 knots and makes them fastest naval vessels. They are equipped with large quantity of weapons including missiles, torpedoes, guns, and other advanced technology.

The main objective of destroyer is to provide protection to the fleet against any threats that may be present in the surrounding waters. Some well known destroyers are Arleigh Burke-class of US, Kolkata class of India.

Frigate

Frigates are medium-sized naval vessels that have a variety of uses, including ASW, surface warfare, and escort duties. Frigates are larger than corvettes however smaller than destroyers. Their length is around 300-400 feet.

They are designed to be multi-role vessels so that they can perform a range of tasks effectively. Frigates are equipped with a variety of weapons like missiles, torpedoes, guns of advanced technology. They can be deployed to protect the fleet, escort other vessels, and conduct offensive operations against enemy forces. Example of frigates are Admiral Gorshkov class of Russia, Shivalik class of India.

Corvette

Corvettes are smaller naval vessels that are designed for coastal defense and escort duties. They are typically used for ASW and surface warfare and have a length of around 200-300 feet. Corvettes are known for their toughness which allows them to operate effectively in shallow waters.

They are equipped with guns and missiles, but they usually have fewer weapons than destroyers. Corvettes are often used for coastal defense, patrolling, and protecting trade routes.Visby-class of Sweden and Kamorta-class of India are some examples of corvettes.

We now understood the difference between these three navel vessels and at the same time their collective importance in Navy.
